The Tennis Dress

There were days when ladies
used to play all in white
Not a stain of grass

Now their colours, no longer
angelic, branded and coloured bright

Six large buttons and a collar
In the days when dresses were pleated
Long, hiding ladies knees

Now hemlines creeping upwards
So women can slide with ease

Ladies become women
And buttons become zips
But the pleasure of playing
tennis will never change.
